Flu Vaccination Update

The format of our flu clinics has had to change this year – to ensure social distancing guidelines can be followed. We are running major flu clinics on Saturdays – rather than during the week.

Things to note:

  • How to book a flu appointment: flu appointments can only be booked by telephone on 01372 455450
  • Masks: must be worn at all times
  • Appointment times: flu appointments are at specific times –please make sure you come to the practice at the right time

The injected flu vaccine is offered free of charge on the NHS to people who are at risk.

Flu vaccination appointments currently available are for people who:

  • Are 65 years of age or over
  • Are pregnant
  • Are 18 to 64 years and have certain medical conditions
  • Are living in a long-stay residential care home or other long-stay care facility
  • Receive a carer’s allowance, or you are the main carer for an elderly or disabled person whose welfare may be at risk if you fall ill
  • Live with somebody who is immunocompromised or who is on the NHS Shielded Patient List (please check if unsure)
  • Are health and social care staff who are directly involved in the care of vulnerable patients / clients who are at increased risk from exposure to flu – those working in or through:
    • Registered care /nursing home or registered domiciliary care providers
    • Hospice providers
    • Direct payments / personal health budgets

Please contact the practice to arrange a vaccination for anybody in the above groups.

Flu vaccine appointments for 50 to 64 year olds – a limited number of vaccines are now available for people who are aged 50 to 64 years.

For children – the flu vaccine is free on the NHS for:

  • Children over the age of 6 months with a long-term health condition
  • Children aged 2 and 3 on 31 August 2020 (born between 01 September 2016 and 31 August 2018)
  • Children in school up to the age of 11 years (these will be available in their schools)
  • Children and young people aged under 18 years and who have certain medical conditions
